Pesky blemishes seem like they should only appear when you’re a teenager, but unfortunately, they come and go throughout most women’s lives. Here’s a quick routine that’s helped me keep my skin clear without overdrying (I have dry skin, so spot cream ends up making my skin flake, then my foundation looks cakey…you know the drill).
- Moisturizing is something that most people with acne problems don’t think to do. In fact, if you have oily skin, your skin is actually DEHYDRATED and your body is simply producing excess oil to make up for that. So first, apply a light coat of oil free moisturizer that has acne medication in it (such as Clean & Clear’s oil free moisturizer with salicylic acid).
- Second, apply a good coat of lotion. In the wintertime, Jergen’s Ultra Healing lotion (it has good vitamins in it, too!) is fantastic. Use a lighter lotion in the summertime.
- If you REALLY need to, apply a spot mask or a spot medication. Be cautious, though, because it can make your face really dry.
Be sure to wash your face before you do this! A dirty face breeds blemishes 😦 I like to use this routine at night and then sleep on it. It has kept my face pretty clear, but still well hydrated, thanks to the two moisturizers.
