If you’re anything like me, when you shop for lipstick, you first look at the lipstick testers. In places like Sephora, you can apply the product on your lips with their individual applicators, but in drugstores or department stores that have testers, it’s just a regular lipstick container that you can’t put on your lips. Our first instinct is to swatch the lipstick on our hand, but this is wrong!! We will see what the color looks like straight out of the tube, but that’s not what it will look like on our lips. Everyone has different colored lips and lipstick will look different on everyone, so you can’t tell how flattering the lipstick will be on you by simply swatching it on your hand. What to do? Try it on your fingertip. (I think I read this in a makeup artist book.) The color on your fingertips is almost the same shade as your lips, and will give a better representation of what the lipstick will look like. It works like a charm! Try it next time you’re unable to try the product on your lips 🙂
